Committees
Education Committee
Advancing jazz education comes in many forms: introducing jazz education at younger levels, supporting the academic community, connecting students and pros for once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and more! Our education programs provide support across all grade levels and styles.
JEN is a community where educators, students, pros and aficionados share and learn from each other. Take part in a multitude of opportunities to connect with fellow JEN members, jazz and contemporary music experts, and our evolving set of digital resources.
Research Committee
The mission of the JEN Research Interest Group is to provide a platform and network for jazz research and its applications to pedagogy and the art form. The committee oversees the submission and peer-reviewed process for the JEN Research Journal, Jazz Education in Research and Practice, schedules and facilitates Research Webinars, and encourages Research Presentations and Poster sessions at the annual JEN conference in January.
Community Engagement Committee
The Community Engagement program is designed to assist in bringing quality jazz education and/or performances to schools and communities. The JEN Conference Community Engagement program started in St. Louis at the first conference in 2010 and has been continued each year to aid in fulfilling the JEN mission. The program runs during each conference in the host city and has reached thousands of students each year.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access Committee
JEN is committed to representing and cultivating diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in all areas of its operation including staff, board members, volunteers, presenters, clinicians, performers and audiences. This commitment is present in all programs and decision making. The DEIA committee supports and informs DEIA strategies throughout JEN programs and messaging.
Development Committee
In order to continue to serve and increase our engagement and positive impact on the lives of thousands through music, it requires funding. The Development Committee understands this necessity and works together to spread the word of the work of the Jazz Education Network and solicit funding, grants, and sponsorships.
Program Committees
Scholarships & Awards Committee
JEN’s scholarship program has been in existence since the organization’s first year and remains an important benefit to the members and students we serve. Each year, we proudly recognize talented, hardworking, aspiring students with a passion for jazz. We also offer a number of additional programs that help fund and support jazz education.
